About Gavin

With a background in both architecture and construction, Gavin brings extensive experience in all facets of building construction to his projects. Gavin has that rare ability to see details in a document and innately understand how they’ll be erected on site; knowing how a building is put together can immeasurably improve the design process. As part of the Abacus team, he works with the project architect to turn conceptual drawings into construction documents, utilizing the firm’s software program. At every point Gavin keeps the end user in mind, recognizing that the Abacus team is creating places people live and work.

On working with Gavin

“There’s great satisfaction in taking an idea—someone’s thoughts, putting that into a working set of drawings that the project is built from, and then being able to walk into the completed facility.”

On his favorite project

“I put a lot of time and effort into Landmark Square senior apartments. It’s rewarding to see that my time and efforts are providing a home for people in the community just a few blocks from our home office.”

On his own time

“I’ve served on the Community Development Authority in Ripon. I love spending time with my girlfriend, Jen, her son Declan, and my three children Ian, Nick, and Bella. Our family does a lot together and we enjoy all of our exciting adventures. Besides spending time with the kids, Jen and I ride our Harleys to rallies and events around the area. We also like to travel on long rides. One of our favorite trips has been a 3 day trip into Upper Michigan.”

On relational architecture

“The way I look at it, it’s working hand-in-hand with the client, the customer, or the contractor, to give them everything they want and need.”
